Livonian Order Castle in the Arcona Metareality ( AR Metaverse )
The Arсona team has embarked on an ambitious project once again – transferring the digital reconstruction of Ludza Castle, built in 1399 by German crusaders, into the Metaverse. This historical monument, located on a hill between the Small and Great Ludza Lakes, will come to life in virtual space, allowing everyone to immerse themselves in the medieval atmosphere.
The History of the Castle
Ludza Castle was an important defensive structure and a centre of power for the Livonian Order. In the Middle Ages, it was a three-storey citadel with six towers, three gates, and two outer baileys.
The castle, built from grey stone and red brick, was adorned with black glazed bricks. It protected the eastern borders of the Livonian Order and played a key role in the region.
A Revolution in Tourism
In 2014, the Arсona team revolutionised tourism by creating the world’s first augmented reality park over ancient ruins. This AR park became a real sensation, attracting over 300,000 visitors annually to a small town with 4,000 residents. The digital reconstruction of the ancient fortress not only brought history to life allowing tourists to immersing in the middle ages but also contributed to the region’s economic growth
The Metaverse: A New Level of Immersion
Now, the Arсona team has decided to transfer this successful case to the Metaverse.
Virtual tours will allow even more people to learn about the history and culture of Ludza using augmented reality technologies.
Visitors will be able to see revived historical moments, such as the defence of the fortress, as well as the reconstruction of the castle’s interiors, which will become museum and exhibition spaces.
Revived Scenes of Medieval Life
Imagine: knights, townspeople, rulers – all coming to life before your eyes.
The reconstruction of events related to the defence of the fortress in different historical periods will add drama and allow a deeper understanding of the history of Ludza Castle and the region.
Virtual tours will become a real journey through time, where each visitor can feel like a part of those distant events.
Economic Development and the Future of the Castle
The Arсona team plans to transfer the castle to the public of Ludza and launch monetisation tools for the augmented reality park.
This will allow the castle to become a source of financial income for both the city’s treasury and the restoration and reconstruction of the castle itself.
